So on Sunday, Feb. 4, the day of the big blizzard, I
put on the tea pot, heat up the soup and get to work
(can't go anywhere anyway!)
I have done all of the research for the design of the chair.  It is again a child's chair -- this
time for taking a "Time Out".  The art is going to be themed around the white rabbit from Alice
in Wonderland, and Ecclesiastes 3:1.  An odd combination, maybe,  but it is going to work GREAT!
.
Here we go - it's Chair Auction time again!  Time for all of us RHS "art rats" to convert
old chairs into "works of art".  As they did last year, teacher Barb Kent and the kids
from the Advanced Placement Portfolio class will auction them off at a Friday night RHS
Rams basketball game.  Funds earned will help defray students' cost of the bus trip to
Chicago, where we will cruise the art galleries and attend a performance of "Wicked".
Last year my chair came from the Salvation Army.
This year I had Good Luck at Goodwill, and for only
$5!  And this year the chair is even pre-painted, so
I am on my way to completion that much sooner.
See the snow blowing straight ACROSS the rooftops??
STEP ONE:  Transfer the design
to the chair with a white pencil.
.
Sunday -- a long bitter cold day outside, but inside, after seven hours of work, the chair is
really taking shape.  Monday is another snow day (icy, icy roads) so, with luck it will almost be
finished and ready for Friday's auction.
.
Monday-- a snow day from school.  Bitter, bitter cold outside, but there is no need to go
anywhere.  A perfect day to get as far as possible on the chair before I crash for the night.
Used the dining table as a work station, again, to get
the  chair about 85% done today.  I am VERY happy
with it!
.
HOORAY!!  It's DONE!   Today (Tuesday) was another ice-bound deep freeze day, no school no
busses, just COLD.  A perfect opportunity to put the finishing touches on the chair.  By 3:00 it
was all done and waiting to go up to school for a final spray of acrylic top-coat.
I couldn't be happier with this first time out into furniture painting.  I
HAVE to do MORE!!
