May 7, 2008, was Jodie's 49th birthday.  Weeks before she had
planned a big party to celebrate it with her friends.  When the
day came she couldn't be there to share it with them,
but they held it anyway.

Her presence was felt in everything from the collection of her beautiful and familiar artwork to her
favorite "salty snacks".  Though she was not there, she still "filled the room".  You could hear her
laughter from everywhere.  Those who loved her and those who knew her ended the day feeling
"Jodie, we hardly knew ye . . . . . "
Jodie was a life force who will be part of us forever.

BEAVER ISLAND SNAPSHOTS
08:08, 08/08/08 - The Beaver Island Memorial for Jodie
At 8:08 pm the CMUBS bell rang 8 times in memory of our friend and colleague Jodie
Dewey, who left us all this year.  She was only 48.  The Beaver Island Watercolor group
gathered in from of "her" cabin at the Bio Station on the shore of Lake Michigan to say
goodbye.  Morgan and Cayla Tinney floated a  wreath of wildflowers out into the shallows
and scattered her ashes into the water where she loved to have her daily swim.  Pat Tinney
and Jon Bouck both spoke and presented her mother, father and best friend with mementos
of her time on Beaver Island.  Artists from the Watercolor Class created a wreath from
wildflowers found round the station.  A plaque was created from heart shaped stones and
shells from the beach and we all made a symbolic toss of her favorite colorful candy, M-M's.
It was a moving and beautiful occasion.
None of us who knew her realized until that moment how much we would miss her.
